Pedestrian Trail Counters
Discovery Park is one of Seattle’s most important green spaces. Each year, more than one million visitors from all 50 states and over 30 countries experience this natural, open space. To better understand visitor numbers the Friends of Discovery Park is counting pedestrians at key trails.
Automated pedestrian counters count visitor numbers using body heat thermal signatures, and not by using cameras. They work similarly to the way motion detector lights work. The pedestrian counters do not take photos or video.
The pedestrian trail count data helps Friends of Discovery Park write grants to improve the park. Including the grants for the current project on the South Beach Trail.
